I forgot about the Chicago Football Classic...

[VIDEO] Great to see this football game return to Soldier Field perhaps for the first time since the pandemic. This game features two football teams from Historically Black Colleges this year the game will be between Central State out of Wilberforce, Ohio vs. Mississippi Valley State out of Itta Bena, Mississippi which will start tomorrow on Saturday, Sept 2, 2023. Again sorry to be last minute on this.

Usually there are events surrounding this game which includes a college fair which will take place hours before the game at  Soldier Field in the United Club at 1410 Special Olympics Dr (perhaps this is at Soldier Field) which will start at 12 Noon tomorrow Sept, 2, 2023.

There was at the end of last month an HBCU Day at Wrigley Field which if you at least follow the IG for the Chicago-area Morehouse College Alumni organization this was also connect with the Chicago Football Classic.

Also as you see in the above clip there was a battle of the bands for both Central State & Mississippi Valley State in Daley Plaza earlier today.

Feel free to check the website chicagofootballclassic.org

America's Crime Crisis: Lightfoot is the worst mayor in America

[VIDEO] I don't know how many of you are watching cable news whether CNN, MSNBC or even FOX News with the clip above. The discussion is over the latest proposal by Mayor Lori Lightfoot to help keep the Bears within the city limits as opposed to potentially Arlington Heights. Frankly I hope the end of the road isn't that close for the racetrack where a new Bears stadium would be located but then again....

Anyway, the mayor proposed a domed stadium on the site of Soldier Field so that historic and architecturally unique structure would again be gutted and a much larger stadium would be located on the site. It could be open for more than an NFL season, it would be open year round. Some soccer matches could be played there and even better still a future WrestleMania....

Well the crime crisis fits in because well as FOX News and our local news discusses the issues of crime. The crime in the neighborhoods unfortunately spill into the more tony areas of our city. So the portrayal by Steve Doocy and Clay Travis is that Chicago is so crime ridden the Bears don't even want to stay.

BTW, I'm still hanging my hat on the Bears locating at the former Southworks site in the South Chicago neighborhood if they want their own stadium.

ALSO, I do actually admire the mayor's plan for Soldier Field, however, the problem has always been even last year with the Bears inking a deal with Arlington Heights is that I don't think politically she'll be able to keep the team in the city.

Did you know Harlan High School has a YouTube channel

[VIDEO] I like how they did this video uploaded over the past summer which is a prep rally for the girls & boys basketball teams. It starts off with a drumline on a football field - is it from the film Drumline. Then takes a few shots around Harlan High School and then to an intro video of the Chicago Bulls. After that we see some pictures of the players in their jerseys and a few highlights of their games.

Then we see the late Kobe Bryant speaking and then a graphic telling viewers to follow Harlan's live sports & replays at HarlanFalconSports.com

Today's Chicago Football Classic

[VIDEO] I wanted to do a more extensive post on the Chicago Football Classic that takes place today at Soldier Field. According to the clock for the official website by the time I post this it will be at least one hour (kickoff 3:30 P.M.) before today's game. This year is between Virginia's Hampton University & D.C.'s Howard University.

Over the years this classic is played is often between two of this nation's Historically Black College's such as Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, Jackson State University (alma mater of the late Walter Payton), Alcorn State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Grambling University, etc. Often there will be a college fair for high school seniors before this event.

I would like to update you on the game when I find out about the results.

NFL footballs are made in Chicago

I can't believe the NFL have started their 100th season and at least in Chicago the season started with a Thursday night loss to the Chicago Bears' longtime rivals the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field. However, did you know the manufacture of NFL footballs have a Chicago connection.

Read about it at NBCChicago. Wilson Sporting Goods is based in Chicago though footballs are actually made at a factory in Ohio. Another Chicago company Horween Leather Co. produced the leather for the footballs. Both companies relationship with the NFL dates back to the founding of the league and is owed to the late former owner of the Bears, George Halas.

#Ward09 News

Earlier this week I shared this portion of Ald. Anthony Beale's recent email sharing news for his Ward 9 constituents on The Sixth Ward's ig. This news is for the planned sports facility near 104th & Woodlawn or according to DNA Info 2016 article - 10355 S. Woodlawn Ave (I erroneously referred to the nearby address of 103rd & Doty). When you turn off 103rd street south onto Woodlawn you will go past the facility construction and will lead you to the Pullman Walmart.

All the same I saved this pictures and the portion of the email that talks about the coming sports facility and wanted to share this with you all on this blog. As always click on pic for larger resolution.

I rarely check out his FB page there's a video of this site on Woodlawn up now. Let's check it out!

Congrats to Jackie Robinson West #JRW

I want to offer a belated congratulations to the Morgan Park based Jackie Robinson West Little League team. They made it all the way to the Little League World Series and unfortunately lost to a team from South Korea on Sunday for the Little League baseball world title.

Unfortunately I never had the chance to truly watch them play but it's great to know this group of young men have already tasted success in their young sports careers. Here's hoping they will continue to have success not only on the baseball diamond but also in their lives away from sports.

Every young man or woman either playing youth sports or even playing in high school, college or professional can always have the ability to become a champion if they work extremely hard. That also goes for life whether in school or in a career as well.

Chicago was truly behind this team and this morning there is a parade for them.

BTW, Worlee over at The Sixth Ward shared his own thoughts on not only JRW, but also the state of Little League baseball on the south side. We need to provide outlets such as this for our youth to keep them out of trouble and team them skills that would help them not only in sports but in life.
