4th of July violence

To be honest I don't really want to add to the perception that Chicago is a dangerous place. Late last month a group of teens converged in the north side's Lakeview neighborhood and the stories became that neighborhood was destroyed. I'm sure there was damages to property whether a car, a bus or a storefront that was a bit of a stretch. Though behavior that resulted in property damages or any injuries or concern for safety is unacceptable.

So anyway, I want to share a couple of videos with regards to the 4th of July violence and we can start with WGN which reported 61 shot with 15 fatal over the past holiday weekend. [VIDEO]

Happy Veteran's Day #Devotion

To all veterans out there, thank you for your service to the United States of America.

I want to share with you all this movie Devotion which will be released November 23, 2022 according to the movie's website. It chronicles the life of Korean War naval aviator ENS. Jesse Brown who unfortunately lost his life during that conflict. Perhaps some of you will go to the Chatham 14 Theaters to watch this movie. [VIDEO]

Happy Thanksgiving

I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving which we're in a different sort of holiday season due to this pandemic. Hopefully you all are finding a way to stay connected with loved ones during this festive time.

I used to look forward to any specials featuring the Peanuts gang. They used to be ubiquitous around this time. And the image of Snoopy always raises my spirits. I hope it does for you as well.

Christmas AM fire on 104th & State

[VIDEO] This was a sad story to find out about on Christmas morning and retweeted several stories about this from various local outlets also over @thesixthward on Twitter. It's sad that the residents of this building at 104th & State Street in Roseland - or Fernwood depending upon the source - were displaced on Christmas morning. In the video from CBS 2 above one family hadn't had the opportunity to even open their presents.

What most have on Christmas morning others may not have and this struck me as very sad.

Here are some tweets to share from news outlets and the Chicago Fire Dept.

CTA holiday bus and train...

Via Transit Chicago
Over at The Sixth Ward blogger JP Paulus posted some times when the CTA holiday bus would be on the south side. So the holiday bus will be running along the #3 King Drive bus starting at Chicago State University on December 9th. The holiday bus also ran on the #3 on Dec. 6th.

Also if you want to head to the bus terminal near 79th/Western the holiday bus will also run on Dec. 23rd. That's two days before Christmas Day. Here are scheduled runs on select bus routes throughout the city until the 23rd.
Via cta web/flickr

The holiday bus has been preceded by the CTA holiday train you can see a schedule of where you will see the train for this holiday season. The holiday train will be running on Dec. 16, 18, 20, and 22. The last run of the holiday train will be on Dec. 23 on the yellow line two days before Christmas Day.

Since JP has two young children he enjoys bringing them to the holiday bus and trains and have often done blog posts and pictures for that purpose. Hopefully you will do the same for your children.

BTW, I think it's time to start talking up the CTA Red Line extension so that one day in the future the holiday train can go as far south as Altgeld Garden!

Chatham 14 holiday party with free movies

December 14th is my birthday and it would be worth it to drop off some items at Chatham 14 for those neighborhood children in need. Everyone has got to eat of course and every child should have a toy to play with. On top of that since temperatures this month had dropped to record lows they also need a coat and through Dec. 20th you can also drop off a coat for a free large popcorn. That was mentioned in another post. Anyway refer to graphic below for more information and hopefully you would either have something to give or you may benefit.
